We had an annual tradition of Cottage Gigs over the September Labour Day long weekend, extending back to 2017. However, after the 2019 Cottage Gig, the COVID -19 Pandemic imposed a long hiatus on the band. But, we were back for the 2023 Labour Day weekend with our fourth Cottage Gig, which we humerously nicknamed Rupert Rockfest, for the town near Marc’s cottage in Québec.

As has been customary for the band’s performances, we had quite a few cameras set up to record the concert. We used a mix of Panasonic cameras, camcorders, and GoPro cameras set up on tripods or attached to microphone stands. We record in 4K, or 2.7K for the GoPro cameras with that as the highest resolution, and produce HD output. This allows us to use what’s often called the Ken Burns effect, named for the documentary master who popularized it. Thus we can pan across or zoom in or out of a fixed camera view to make it appear that the camera was moving. In reality, there were no camera operators at all.

We have produced one video from the performance so far, although there are several more in the works.

No Time

The first video we produced was of the band performing No Time by Canadian band, The Guess Who. This is one of the songs in which most of the band members sing and we really liked the way it turned out.

One Fine Morning

The next video we produce was of the band performing One Fine Morning, also by a Canadian band, this time Lighthouse. Again, most of the band members are singing in this song.
