Frozen Echo is very pleased to announce that JP has joined the band as our new drummer. We came to know JP through his friendship with our guitarist, Marc. Marc invited him to audition with us and he passed with, as they say, flying colours! No surprise for a former member of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
JP has a long history with music. He started playing the accordion, a fact we will never let him forget, at the age of nine. He played for three years under The Royal Conservatory development program. Then, he learned the clarinet in grade 9 music class. Not satisfied with just knowing those two instruments, he took private drum lessons that same year. With these new skills, he joined his high school concert and stage bands. There, he played drums and other percussion instruments until he graduated from grade 13.
After high school, JP took a long break from music while attending university and enjoying his career in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He picked up music again in 2006 when he joined a concert band in Orléans, part of the City of Ottawa. About eight years later he became a member of a newly-formed jazz band.
When the COVID pandemic hit in March 2020, JP left both bands when in-person activities were curtailed. Around the same time, he founded a quartet with three friends (a guitar player plus two singers) covering famous jazz and soft rock tunes from the past. He remains a member of that band.
JP was excited to join Frozen Echo because of the opportunity to play his favourite genre of music, Classic Rock, with other like-minded musicians and singers.
We’re thrilled to have JP join us. Welcome aboard!
